If the price is right, the Chicago Bears shouldn't have any trouble unloading quarterback Cade McNown.
For a low conditional choice, maybe a sixth- or seventh-round choice, teams such as the Dolphins, Packers, Redskins and Lions may be interested. McNown's agent, Tom Condon, figures at least five teams would be in the market. With $3.27 million available under the salary cap, the Bears can accommodate a trade now, and then they can rework a few more veteran contracts to free up room for future moves. Getting some value for McNown is better than nothing. Still, releasing him will have the same cap consequences as a trade. Figuring that five teams are interested, you can expect a couple of clubs would claim him on waivers. If that happens, the Bears would have to take the cap hit this year. It's apparent that McNown is going end up the third quarterback behind Shane Matthews and Jim Miller. His lack of consistent accuracy is more of a handicap to his Bears future than any perceived personality problem with the team. New general manager Jerry Angelo is in the slow process of changing the roster. He's already released safety Shawn Wooden, linebacker Sean Harris and safety Ray McElroy.
