The Minnesota Vikings bolstered their fullback corps late Wednesday night and, in doing so, figure to pick up a few trade secrets on a division rival as well.

The Vikings signed veteran Matt Snider, released over the weekend by the Green Bay Packers, to a two-year contract. Financial details were not immediately available.

Snider, 25, is a solid lead-blocker and special teams performer and provides Minnesota coach Dennis Green another proven contributor who does not mind being a role-player. The Vikings already have two fullbacks on the roster, former second-round choice Jim Kleinsasser and special teams standout Harold Morrow, and will have to release a player on Thursday to create a roster opening for Snider.

The former University of Richmond standout originally entered the league with Carolina in 1999 as an undrafted free agent. He was claimed by the Packers on waivers when the Panthers cut him before training camp even began.

In two league seasons, Snider has appeared in 24 games. He has never touched the ball from scrimmage and has 15 special-teams tackles.
