Five-year NFL combine averages

The numbers that come out of the NFL combine in Indianapolis -- heights and weights, 40-yard dash times, vertical jumps and broad jumps, and more -- are watched with a keen eye by scouts and fans alike, but what do they really mean?

In an effort to offer some perspective on the measurements, times and distances that will come out of this year's combine, Scouts Inc. has broken down the results from the last five combines (2008-12) by position and come up with the average for each position in a number of significant categories.

This chart will come in handy when you want to know how the results posted by this year's participants compare to recent combine prospects at the same position.

Key: POS=position; HT=height; WT=weight; Arm=arm length (inches); Hand=hand span (inches); Bench=repetitions on 225-pound bench press; 40=40-yard dash; VJ=vertical jump; BJ=broad jump (feet-inches); 20-shuttle=20-yard shuttle run (seconds); 3-cone=3-cone drill (seconds)
