Patriots' Josh McDaniels among most creative offensive playcallers

After stints as head coach of the Broncos and as offensive coordinator of the Rams, Josh McDaniels returned to run the Patriots' offense in 2012. Greg M. Cooper/USA TODAY Sports

In the AFC divisional round in January, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady threw 14 straight passes to open the playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Forget balance in the call sheet or static tendencies -- Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels flipped the script. Throw the rock and then throw it some more. The lopsided numbers: 302 yards passing with just 38 yards on the ground. The Patriots got the win and advanced.
