Best fits for top NFL free agents on market

Where are the most likely landing spots for free agents Greg Hardy and Nick Foles? Getty Images

The recent rash of retirements has greatly diminished the free-agent market, but there are still veterans available who could help teams as the season nears.

Close to 50 players announced their retirements this offseason, including several who would have been valuable. Among those in their 20s who retired include Calvin Johnson, Percy Harvin, Eugene Monroe, Walter Thurmond, Husain Abdullah, Marshawn Lynch, B.J. Raji and Jerod Mayo.

That leaves an aging list of available free agents, and none will command a big contract. Here are the best 20 remaining on the market, along with a possible landing spot:

1. Greg Hardy, defensive end

Jacksonville made the first move by bringing Hardy in for a visit but not offering him a contract. Now that camp is underway, a team will almost certainly take a chance and sign him before the season, despite the backlash. At 28, he can be a force on the field, but he was more of a distraction than a force in Dallas last season.

Best fit: Jacksonville Jaguars or Washington Redskins -- The Jags could use an extra pass-rusher, while the Redskins could use Hardy as an option for the injured Junior Galette.
