| | MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin coach Barry Alvarez said
Wednesday he will stay with college football despite being on the
list for the Green Bay Packers coaching job.
Alvarez met with Green Bay general manager Ron Wolf, who is seeking a replacement for the fired Ray Rhodes, but he is not
interested in the NFL job.

Davis not interested

University of Miami coach Butch Davis, a former defensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys, said Wednesday he has no plans to leave the Hurricanes for a head coaching position in the NFL.
"I am flattered every time my name is mentioned as a candidate for another head coaching job," Davis said. "It is an honor to be thought of in such high regard. However, I have no interest in any other head coaching position.
I am extremely excited about the future of the Hurricane football program and anxiously look forward to next season. Recruiting is my top priority at this time, and right now is the only thing I'm interested in."

"I talked with Ron because of my respect for him and because of my relationship with the Packers' organization," Alvarez said in a written statement. "I was humbled when the Packers showed an
interest in me, but I remain dedicated to building the program at
Wisconsin."
There is no shortage of prospects with whom Wolf can talk.
One of the latest additions might be former New York Jets
defensive coordinator Bill Belichick. He is interested in a Green
Bay interview after getting his Jets affairs wrapped up, his agent
Neil Cornrich said Tuesday.
Belichick quit the Jets a week ago, one day after becoming the successor to coach Bill Parcells. A contract hearing is scheduled
Thursday with the NFL on whether Belichick can talk with other
teams.
Wolf was expected to speak with San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg. Pittsburgh defensive coordinator Jim Haslett also is a prospect for a Green Bay interview.
