Sherman has two big jobs to fill

Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The guessing game about the new Green Bay Packers coach has been replaced with another mystery: Who will be Mike Sherman's choices to be his top assistants?

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Thursday that the strong candidates were Tom Rossley as offensive coordinator and Mark Duffner as defensive coordinator.

All three worked together in 1986-87 at Holy Cross, where Duffner was head coach, Rossley was offensive coordinator and Sherman was offensive line coach.

Rossley now is quarterbacks coach with the Kansas City Chiefs and Duffner is linebackers coach with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Sherman was named to replace Ray Rhodes, fired after one year as Packers coach when the team finished 8-8 and failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1992.
