Officers sought imprisoned Chmura's autograph

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- Corrections officers have been disciplined for getting autographs from Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura while he was jailed on allegations of sexual assault.

Sheriff William Kruziki said Sunday that the officers obtained the autographs, including one on a copy of Chmura's mug shot.

When confronted with the breach of professional conduct, the officers turned in the autographs and were disciplined with written or verbal reprimands, Kruziki said. A fifth officer was disciplined for printing out the mug shot that Chmura signed.

"We took real swift and decisive action," Kruziki said. "They've all been there long enough to know better."

Chmura, 31, was jailed for about 12 hours a week ago after being accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at a party held at the home of a neighbor. The neighbor was arrested and accused of having sexual contact with an 18-year-old woman at the party.

District Attorney Paul Bucher has said the two men could be charged with third-degree sexual assault. A decision on charges is expected in the next three weeks.

The sheriff said none of the five officers -- two women and three men -- was suspended. During roll call that day, the captain on duty warned jail personnel not to ask for autographs.
