Davis sprains ankle in return

ST. LOUIS -- Terrell Davis, Denver's star running back, turned his left ankle in the second quarter of Monday's night's game with the St. Louis Rams.

Davis, who missed the final 12 games of last season with a knee injury, had 34 yards on nine carries when he left the game. He did not return and his backup, Olandis Gary, ran for 80 yards on 13 carries as Denver lost 41-36 to the Rams.

The prognosis for Davis, whose ankle was sprained, is day-to-day. After he was hurt, Davis did not leave the field but stood on the sideline with a towel around his neck.
