DENVER -- Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis, slowed
by injuries all season, missed Sunday's game against the San Diego
Chargers because of soreness above his left ankle.
Already trying to come back from a season-ending knee injury in
1999, Davis missed five games because of a sprained ankle that also
caused pain in his left foot. He said the latest injury is related
to his earlier problems.
Davis' absence left Denver (6-4) without two of its leading
offensive players. Quarterback Brian Griese is expected to miss at
least three games because of a dislocated throwing shoulder.
Gus Frerotte replaced Griese in the starting lineup, and rookie
Mike Anderson took over for Davis, who has run for 282 yards on 78
carries this season. Davis needs 94 yards for 7,000 in his career.
