ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo's injury-prone quarterback Rob
Johnson sustained a game-ending concussion in the second quarter of
Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Bills officials announced that Johnson would not return to the
game.
Johnson, who's been knocked out of five of his 11 starts because
of injuries this season, was hurt when he was slammed headfirst to
the ground by Patriots defensive end Greg Spires.
Spires burst into the Bills backfield untouched and struck
Johnson just as the quarterback released the ball. Johnson lay
face-first on the turf for a couple of minutes before being helped
off the field.
Doug Flutie took over on the next possession and drove the Bills
23 yards to set up Steve Christie's 25-yard field goal that tied
the game 3-3.
Johnson, coming off two of the worst performances of his
six-year career, had trouble generating much against New England as
the Bills mustered just 23 yards of offense in three series behind
Johnson.
Johnson was getting his fifth straight start after missing four
games with a separated shoulder.
