Giants' Allen says earring not ripped away

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Giants first-round draft pick Will Allen says he did not lose $150,000 worth of jewelry during a robbery last week.

Allen told the Newark Star-Ledger there was some misinformation in reports about the Sunday morning incident.

He also told the newspaper he did not struggle with the assailants and did not have an earring ripped from his ear. Allen estimated the worth of the jewelry at less than half the reported amount.

Allen's ear showed no signs of damage in the interview Wednesday.

Allen said he peeled off a bracelet, watch and "worthless earrings" and handed them to robbers to keep the incident from escalating into something more serious.

The gunmen did spray gasoline on his jean jacket and threatened to light him on fire, Allen said, but he quickly took off his jacket and handed it to them.

"If I would've resisted more, something would've happened, so I didn't," he said.

Investigators have no suspects, Sgt. David Sackett said Monday.

Allen spent the night out with friends and was returning home when three men wearing stocking masks confronted him in a hallway of his apartment.

The 22-year-old defensive back is a Syracuse native. He was drafted 22nd overall in April and could start for the Giants this season.
