JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A knee injury will keep
Jacksonville Jaguars tackle Tony Boselli out of Thursday's preseason game
against the Kansas City Chiefs. Beyond that, he's making no
predictions.
"I'm going one day at a time," Boselli said Tuesday. "I'd
like to be out there the whole preseason, but I can't. The best
thing I can do is try to get ready, and be there whenever it's time
for me to play."
Boselli had a scare Sunday when his right knee gave out and he
collapsed on the field during practice. He was diagnosed with a
bone bruise, and no structural damage.
He began rehabilitation immediately, and was moving around
Tuesday without crutches and without much pain.

Smith: 'Put me in, coach!'

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Jimmy Smith says he's ready to play Thursday night's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jacksonville Times Union reported Sunday.
Smith underwent three abdominal surgeries in the offseason.
Jaguars coach Tom Coughlin says he'll decide later in the week if he'll let Smith play after seeing how he practices, the Times Union reported.
"That's where I belong. I don't belong on the sidelines. I belong on the field," Smith told the Times Union.

Coach Tom Coughlin said he believes Boselli, a five-time Pro
Bowler, will return for the Sept. 9 opener against Pittsburgh.
Boselli bristled at the notion that he will play the rest of his
career with knee problems. The seventh-year veteran had major
surgery on his right knee after an injury in January 2000.
"I don't have bad knees," he said. "How it happened and how
it came out show the knee is strong. The ligaments are strong. The
doctors are very encouraged."
Without Boselli, the Jaguars will go with Gannon Shepherd at
left tackle against the Chiefs. Shepherd spent most of last year on
practice squads in Jacksonville and Chicago. He was a defensive
tackle at Duke in college.
Clearly, this isn't the best scenario for a team still looking
for its first touchdown of the preseason.
"We're not going to make excuses," quarterback Mark Brunell
said. "If Gannon's at left tackle, we expect him to protect. We
want to score some touchdowns this week."
