NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee quarterback Steve McNair watched practice Thursday with ice wrapped around his sore and swollen thumb.
McNair injured the thumb on his throwing hand during the first half of Monday night's 16-10 loss to Baltimore. He couldn't grip a ball Wednesday and didn't throw one Thursday.
"There's a chance he may throw the ball a little bit tomorrow," coach Jeff Fisher said.
A splint that had been on his hand Wednesday was gone, replaced by tape on the thumb and index finger. Swelling around the base of the thumb is the biggest problem. McNair had X-rays and other tests on his right hand Tuesday, and coach Jeff Fisher said the results were negative. But doctors found an apparent hairline break in McNair's thumb, which he originally hurt last season in practice. McNair couldn't hold a ball Tuesday. He attended the team's walk-through practice Wednesday and remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals. McNair had the flu the past couple of days and was given fluids intravenously at halftime of Tennessee's 16-10 loss to the Ravens.
Linebacker Randall Godfrey took part in practice Thursday, his first full workout since having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee eight days ago. He remains questionable for Sunday's game at Cincinnati. |
