Banged-up Packers add McCullough to mix

Associated Press

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers signed wide receiver Andy McCullough on Tuesday to add depth to their banged-up receiving corps.

Terry Glenn is out with a sprained knee, and Robert Ferguson (groin) and Javon Walker (ankle) also are limited. Plus, several backups have been hurt.

"We've had our share of little nicks and bumps in that group, nothing serious,'' coach Mike Sherman said. "We've had some muscle pulls and strains and they've been doing a lot of running in practice. I'm sure fatigue has a lot to do with that.

"So, we added another receiver today to try to help that group with some depth.''

The Packers waived injured wideout Windrell Hayes to make room for the 6-foot-3, 211-pound McCullough, a former NFL Europe standout.

McCullough, a 26-year-old who played at Tennessee, had 41 catches for 460 yards and three touchdowns for Frankfurt in 2001. Two years earlier, he led the Galaxy to the league championship with 48 receptions for 883 yards and 10 TDs.

He caught six passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns in Frankfurt's 38-24 victory over Barcelona in the title game that year.

McCullough was originally selected by New Orleans in the seventh round of the 1998 draft and has spent time on the practice squads in Arizona, Miami, Kansas City and Tennessee.

In 1999, he caught three passes for 45 yards in three games with the Arizona Cardinals.
