IRVING, Texas -- Seattle quarterback Trent Dilfer will miss the rest of the season after tearing his right Achilles' tendon during the second quarter of Sunday's 17-14 win over Dallas.
Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said Dilfer would have surgery Monday in Seattle. "I feel so bad for him. It's been an unlucky year for him,'' Holmgren said. "It looked like he got hurt when he was out scrambling.'' Dilfer took an awkward step as he was dropping back to pass. He still was able to roll out to his right to avoid defenders and complete the pass to Shaun Alexander for 8 yards. As soon as Dilfer let go of the ball, he fell to the ground and pointed to his right leg. Dilfer, who was 7-of-12 for 46 yards with an interception, was replaced by Matt Hasselbeck, who will start the rest of the season. Hasselbeck was 12-of-19 for 131 yards with an interception. "We needed him to be playing well and he did. He'll be our quarterback for the rest of the season,'' Holmgren said. "He was excited to get into the game. I though he did a good job of playing within himself.'' Dilfer missed Seattle's season opener after spraining a knee during a preseason game. He was 94-of-168 for 1,182 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions since returning. |
