TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals running back Thomas Jones will miss the rest of the season after breaking his right hand in a mishap at his home, the team announced Saturday. He was placed on the injured reserve list Tuesday. Jones broke the fourth metacarpal bone when his hand struck the edge of a countertop as he reached for a telephone Friday night, according to a Cardinals spokesman. Jones will be examined by a hand specialist next week prior to undergoing surgery. It was not immediately clear who would replace Jones in the starting backfield in Sunday's home game against the Oakland Raiders. Jones had 511 yards on 138 carries with two touchdowns in nine games this season and also caught 20 passes for 113 yards. Jones, the Cardinals' first-round draft pick in 2000 out of Virginia, has 1,274 career rushing yards and eight TDs in 39 games. |
