Bettis moves up on the NFL's all-time rushing chart

Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- Jerome Bettis of the Pittsburgh Steelers moved past O.J. Simpson into 11th place among NFL career rushers with 79 yards Sunday against Cincinnati.

Bettis, sidelined until Sunday for all but a few plays since injuring a knee Oct. 21 against Indianapolis, has 11,287 yards in 10 seasons -- 51 yards more than Simpson.

Bettis is 66 yards away overtaking John Riggins for 10th place. Bettis is second only to NFL career rushing leader Emmitt Smith among active rushers.

Because the knee injury forced him out of most of four games, Bettis is unlikely to gain 1,000 yards for a seventh straight season. He has 411 yards through 11 games, with five regular season games remaining.
