Stecker re-signs, Green rejoins Bucs

Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. -- Running back Aaron Stecker re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, and wide receiver Jacquez Green agreed to terms, both on one-year contracts.

Stecker finished fifth in the NFC and eighth in the NFL among kick returners with a 25.2-yard average in 2002. Stecker also saw occasional duty in the backfield for the Super Bowl champions. He enters his fourth season with Tampa Bay after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2000. The previous season, Stecker was NFL Europes offensive MVP with the Scottish Claymores.

Green, a member of the Buccaneers from 1998-2001, rejoins Tampa Bay after spending the 2002 season with both the Washington Redskins and Detroit Lions.

Last season, Green caught five passes for 94 yards and returned 17 punts for 174 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown return last year. He played in 10 games with the Redskins before being claimed off waivers by the Lions, where he spent the remainder of the season on the inactive list.

The deal likely will pay Green, 27, a minimum base salary of $535,000, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reported.

In 66 games with 37 starts, Green has 162 catches for 2,311 yards and seven touchdowns. In 1999 and 2000, Green finished with 50-catch seasons. He also had the franchises longest punt return for a touchdown, a 95-yarder at Green Bay in 1998.

Green joined the Buccaneers as a second-round pick in 1998.
