Mariucci tells Anderson to spend time with family

Associated Press

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Detroit Lions head coach Steve Mariucci told Scotty Anderson not to attend the team's passing camp after the wide receiver was stabbed outside a southwest Houston nightclub.

Anderson, 23, and his brother, Stevie, were stabbed early Monday in Houston. Although Scotty Anderson was treated and released with a left forearm injury, his brother remained in the hospital in critical condition Tuesday.

"When I spoke with him last night, I insisted that he stay back there,'' Mariucci said Tuesday. "I felt it was important for him to be with his family and take care of family business, much more important than this minicamp.''

"I guess he's got an injury to his shoulder, and it's got a bandage on it,'' Mariucci said. "He told me not to worry about it. He'll be OK eventually. He's lucky.''

Although the Lions selected Michigan State wide receiver Charles Rogers with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and signed several free-agent receivers, Mariucci said Anderson should not be concerned about the missed time affecting him.

"This is separate from football,'' Mariucci said. "He's been here before. He's not a rookie. He'll catch up right away. It certainly wasn't his fault.''

Houston police have arrested Christopher L. Robinson, 30, and Charles E. Jones, 30, and the two will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
