MESA, Ariz. -- Super Bowl star Michael Pittman has been charged with aggravated assault after police say the Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back rammed a car carrying his wife, their son and a baby sitter.
Pittman was charged Tuesday with two counts of aggravated assault. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 16, the county attorney's office said. No one was hurt in the incident Saturday near Pittman's home in Phoenix. The county attorney's office there will determine whether charges will be filed against the running back, who was released from jail. Pittman, who played four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Bucs as a free agent last year, was arguing with his wife about taking their 2-year-old son to training camp, Phoenix police Lt. Michael Cecchini said. The running back was arrested twice on domestic violence charges in the summer of 2001. He also was arrested in 1997, and sentenced to a batterers' treatment program and two years' probation. Pittman's wife gave birth to the couple's second child last month. |
