DALLAS -- Dallas Cowboys backup safety Keith Davis, shot twice in a topless club's parking lot, was readmitted to a hospital for his wounds, his agent says. Agent Byron Boston said he talked to the player on Monday. Davis, who was treated and released from Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas on Sunday, was readmitted the next day to a hospital in Irving, citing pain from wounds on his left hip and right arm. But Boston said doctors are optimistic that Davis will be ready for training camp, which starts in San Antonio on July 26. Davis, too, said he expects to be ready. "I really am blessed just to be here, though," he added. It was uncertain whether the Cowboys planned to keep Davis on the roster, however. Davis, 24, was shot early Sunday outside the Dallas Gentlemen's Club in an attack that also wounded club security guard Jacquois Thompson, 29, in the left hip and right arm. "I'm fine. My hip is fine," the defensive back said Monday. "I'm walking around on it and just need to work it out. As far as my arm goes, I need to keep moving it around. I am having a hard time moving some fingers but I will be fine." Thompson's condition was unavailable. Amber Davis, the player's fiancee, contends that he was an innocent victim of an altercation that started inside the club and moved outside as they drove up to the club to pick up a friend. "The whole thing started out inside and spilled outside to the parking lot," Dallas police Sgt. Paul Morris said. Amber Davis said she was walking to her car when a vehicle drove up and a man reached out of the car and tried to grab her, putting a gun to her head. Police were told that Keith Davis began to fight with four people inside the car. According to a police report, Thompson was pulling Davis from the car when four shots rang out. "We have absolutely no reason why they tried to shoot us," Amber Davis said. The second-year player spent most of the 2002 season on the Cowboys' practice squad. He played in five games at safety and on special teams for the Cowboys last season. |
