INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Colts restructured Edgerrin James' contract to clear room under this year's salary cap. Colts president Bill Polian said Thursday that James agreed to the restructuring, in which the total value of his contract will remain the same but money will be paid out differently. James, a two-time NFL rushing champion, has two years remaining on the six-year deal he signed in 1999 after the Colts drafted him out of Miami. James rushed for 989 yards last season after coming off knee surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament, which caused him to miss the last 10 games of the 2001 season. Even though the Colts have yet to sign any of this year's draft picks, Polian said he hopes that all will be signed before the start of training camp July 27. |
