Garcia injured back during offseason workout

Associated Press

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco quarterback Jeff Garcia might not be ready for the start of training camp this week after injuring his back during an offseason workout.

Garcia, a three-time Pro Bowl selection who has started 53 consecutive games, has a protruding disc in his back, according to coach Dennis Erickson. Garcia could miss a few of the 49ers' first practices, which start Friday.

"It's not going to be season-ending by any means, but we will just have to take it slower right now,'' Erickson said.

All-Pro receiver Terrell Owens skipped the 49ers' final three minicamps, but Erickson expects him to report to camp on time this week. The 49ers have moved their camp from Stockton back to their team headquarters in the Bay area.
