Hamilton, 32, appeared in Superior Court on Friday in Morristown, N.J. Judge John Harper postponed the case until Sept. 2 to give Hamilton's attorney time to gather information for prosecutors. Lt. Jeffrey S. Paul, a spokesman for Prosecutor Michael M. Rubbinaccio, said Saturday the arrangement calls for Hamilton to plead guilty to third-degree possession of cocaine. If Hamilton pleads guilty, prosecutors said they will dismiss other charges against him. Those include possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and motor vehicles offenses. On May 22, Hamilton was traveling on Route 287 in Harding Township when he was stopped for having tinted windows on his Mercedes Benz. Police searched his car and found less than 50 grams of marijuana and a folded dollar bill with a small amount of cocaine inside. A cup containing vodka mixed with orange juice also was found. Hamilton is also trying to return to the Giants after missing most of last season with an Achilles tendon injury. He was absent from the team's first training camp practice Friday morning because of the court hearing. He said his Achilles felt fine in the afternoon workout. The NFL could suspend Hamilton after reviewing the incident. |
