Out of sorts in Wellington, Prithvi Shaw had just one net session between the two Tests but made an impressive change in his technique to give India the positive start captain Virat Kohli was after. Asked to bat first again, India negotiated the rain-delayed first session for the loss of just two wickets, with Shaw putting the New Zealand bowlers under pressure with a 64-ball 54. New Zealand were forced to go to Neil Wagner's short-ball plan as early as the 19th over.
