Banks to start Sunday vs. Patriots

HOUSTON -- Texans quarterback David Carr will miss at least one game and perhaps more with a sprained right shoulder.

Veteran Tony Banks will get his second start of the season Sunday against New England.

Carr was injured late in the first quarter of Sunday's 12-10
victory at Buffalo when Bills linebacker Jeff Posey came free for a
sack, driving Carr's throwing shoulder into the turf. Center Todd
Washington prevented a touchdown by sweeping the ball out of bounds
for a safety after Carr fumbled.

"An MRI revealed David has a sprain of the AC joint," coach
Dom Capers said Monday, referring to the point where the shoulder
meets the collarbone. "We're going to have to determine what
progress he makes in his rehab from that point on."

It's the second time this year Carr, who took every snap as a
rookie last season, has been knocked out of a game in the first
quarter. He limped away from a sack at Indianapolis on Oct. 26 with
a sprained right ankle and missed one game, which Banks started and
won over Carolina.

At that time Houston coaches did not sign another quarterback because
they were confident Carr would rebound quickly. This time, the
Texans reacted to Monday's MRI test results by immediately signing
Mike Quinn to the practice squad.

"We just felt that with David not being able to throw the
football and Mike's been with us and knows the system we have ...
it was in our best interest now to bring Mike in," Capers said of
Quinn, who spent last season as the No. 3 quarterback, but never
got into a game.

The opening on the practice squad came when linebacker Shantee Orr was promoted to the 53-man roster. Fellow linebacker Jimmy McClain was cut Monday to make room for Orr.

However, Quinn is not eligible for games if he is on the
practice squad, meaning the Texans could go into Sunday with only
Banks and rookie Dave Ragone active. The emergency third-stringer
would be receiver Jabar Gaffney, who played quarterback in high

Capers said the Texans, who at 4-6 have matched last season's
victory total, will not rush Carr.
