Roethlisberger, Ward out Sunday vs. Jaguars

PITTSBURGH -- Injuries will keep Pittsburgh wide receiver Hines Ward and Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor out of Sunday's game.

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who hyperextended his
left knee in Monday night's win against San Diego, could be used
only as an emergency No. 3 quarterback. Tommy Maddox is scheduled
to make his first NFL start since the regular season finale at
Buffalo on Jan. 2.

Ward, who aggravated his hamstring, will miss his first game in
116 consecutive regular season games. Antwaan Randle El and Cedrick
Wilson are scheduled to start.

Taylor has a sprained right ankle, and the Jaguars planned to
open with a two-fullback set of Greg Jones and Derrick Winbush.
Taylor's backup is rookie Alvin Pearman.

Maddox will be backed up by Charlie Batch, who has thrown only
eight passes in the last four seasons.

Roethlisberger, 16-1 as an NFL starter, had missed only one game
since becoming the Steelers' starter last season. He sat out Jan. 2
against Buffalo with a rib injury.
