Texans' Mathis cited for loose pit bulls

HOUSTON -- Houston Texans receiver and kick returner Jerome Mathis was cited for loose dogs after neighbors complained that
they were harassed by his escaped pit bulls, police said.

Mathis, 24, allowed the dogs to remain at large and kept
unvaccinated animals, the Brazoria County Sheriff's Department
said. Officers captured one dog and three puppies on Saturday near
his Manvel home, the report said.

"We are aware of the situation, and we're going to try to help
Jerome resolve it," Texans spokesman Tony Wyllie said in a story
posted on the Houston Chronicle's Web site Tuesday.

A woman told sheriff's deputies the dogs chased her into her
residence, while another couple said they were forced to jump onto
a parked car to avoid the dogs.

No injuries were reported.
