Top executives for the Tennessee Titans indicated Friday that they haven't entered into conversations with Justin McCareins about possibly re-signing the veteran wide receiver.
ESPN.com, citing a source, reported earlier Friday that McCareins had signed a one-year contract with the Titans for $730,000.
McCareins, regarded as an effective possession-type receiver, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent when the market opens next Friday.
Titans sources said the club wants to upgrade at its second receiver spot. In his second stint with Tennessee in 2008, the 30-year-old McCareins started 10 games and caught 30 passes for 412 yards. He is an eight-year veteran from Northern Illinois.
For his career, McCareins has started in 99 of 130 regular-season appearances. He has 240 receptions for 3,676 yards and 16 touchdowns. McCareins' most productive stretch was 2003-2005, when he totaled 146 catches for 2,296 yards and 13 touchdowns.
