Reports: Elbert Jovante Woods dies

Elbert Jovante Woods, the 16-year-old son of former Cincinnati Bengals fullback Ickey Woods, died Saturday at the hospital, three days after collapsing at his home from an asthma attack, several media outlets reported.

Jovante was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center on Wednesday after suffering an asthma attack. He had practiced with the Princeton High School football team in Cincinnati that morning.

The Woods family told kypost.com, Jovante went for about 30 minutes without oxygen. He was placed in ICU at the hospital but showed no signs of improvement over the past three days.

"Earlier today, test results again showed no improvement and no brain activity and he was not responsive to touch. A final set of tests were done at 8 p.m. this evening, at approximately 8:30, Javonte's battle ended," Princeton athletic director Scott Kaufman told kypost.com.

Ickey Woods is head coach of the Cincinnati Sizzle, a women's full-contact football team, and operates the Ickey Woods Youth Foundation.
