JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Monday Night Football
features a battle of first-place teams when the Tennessee Titans
meet the Washington Redskins in an interconference matchup. The Titans (6-1) reached the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history last season and enter tonight's contest atop the AFC Central with a six-game winning streak. The Redskins (6-2) went on an offseason spending frenzy with the goal of reaching the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1991 season. After a disappointing 1-2 start which included a home loss to NFC East rival Dallas, the Redskins have won five straight and are currently tied with the New York Giants for first place in the division. Tennessee may be without running back Eddie George, who is listed as questionable with a sprained right knee. He suffered the injury in the first quarter of Tennessee's 14-6 win over Baltimore last week. After rushing for at least 1,200 yards in each of his first four years, George has 666 yards in seven games this season. If George is unable to play, sixth-year reserve Rodney Thomas will step in as his replacement. The 1972 Miami Dolphins can celebrate another year of unmatched perfection. The Minnesota Vikings became the last unbeaten team to fall, suffering a resounding 41-13 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday in Week Nine of the NFL season. Members of the 1972 Dolphins -- the NFL's only unbeaten, untied team with a 17-0 record -- usually get together and celebrate when the last remaining unbeaten team loses. Two years ago, the Dolphins had to sweat when the Denver Broncos made it to 13-0 before falling to the New York Giants on December 13. Last year, the Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams did not even make it halfway through the season, losing at Tennessee after opening with six wins. Sunday, the Vikings went into Tampa Bay with a 7-0 record for the second time in three years and again left with a loss, keeping the '72 Dolphins standard of perfection intact. Playing with a sense of urgency on the heels of a four-game losing streak, the Buccaneers (4-4) forced four turnovers, including a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Derrick Brooks, and Shaun King passed for a career-high four touchdowns.
