News: 2 days agoGronkowski (ribs) has been ruled out for Thursday's game in Philadelphia, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Spin: With Gronkowski out for a third straight game, Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard are likely to continue rotating at tight end. Gronkowski hasn't practiced for three weeks since suffering multiple internal injuries, but the Bucs haven't ruled him out beyond Week 6. He'll now have some extra time to recover before Tampa's next game Oct. 24 against the Bears.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Gronkowski made a triumphant return to the NFL last season, appearing in all 20 of Tampa Bay's games en route to a Super Bowl victory. During the regular season, Gronkowski lacked targets (4.8 per game), but made up for it (as usual) with downfield usage (he's finished all 10 of his seasons Top 10 in aDOT) and heavy volume near the goal line (he paced the position with 14 end zone targets). Gronkowski's routine disappearing act last season (six top-six fantasy weeks, but eight of 23rd or worse), coupled with the return of O.J. Howard (who out-targeted him 19 to 14 in four games together last season), suggests we should view the 32-year-old as a TD-dependent TE2.
