News: 8 hours agoCoach Urban Meyer said Wednesday he "can't overemphasize" the positive effect Jones has had on Jacksonville's wide receivers and the team as a whole, Eugene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union reports.

Spin: The 31-year-old joined Jacksonville on a two-year, $14.5 million deal early in the offseason after spending the past five seasons in Detroit, and he's poised to work as his new team's No. 2 wide receiver. Jones brings a veteran presence to a young offense that will be led by rookie signal-caller Trevor Lawrence. Fourth-year wideout DJ Chark sits atop the depth chart, while Laviska Shenault and Collin Johnson are in their second years and in prime position to benefit from the veteran's presence. Jones had a strong showing for the Lions in 2020, catching 76 of 115 targets for 978 yards and nine touchdowns, and he's poised to have a major impact for the Jaguars, both on and off the field.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Jones signed with Jacksonville after spending his first four seasons with the Bengals and the last five with the Lions. Jones ranked third in routes and 18th in fantasy points as Detroit's No. 1 WR during most of 2020 but is likely to play a lesser role with D.J. Chark and Laviska Shenault Jr. in the fold in Jacksonville. Where Jones has shined is near the goal line, as he's scored nine-plus TDs in four seasons since 2013, including exactly nine in three of his past four campaigns. He's finished no lower than 20th in end zone targets and no lower than 25th in aDOT among WRs during that span. With rookie QB Trevor Lawrence likely to experience growing pains out of the gate, Jones is best valued as a borderline flex option in 12-team leagues.
