News: 7 days agoFournette rushed 22 times for 81 yards and two touchdowns and brought in all six targets for 46 yards in the Buccaneers' 28-22 win over the Eagles on Thursday night.
Spin: Fournette's fantasy managers have to be overjoyed with developments regarding the running back over the last 12 days, as he's posted 67 total touches and three touchdowns during the three games in that span and finally provided some clarity to the previously murky Buccaneers backfield picture in the process. The 26-year-old's strong play has clearly pushed Ronald Jones into a backup role, and Fournette's robust usage through the air -- he's logged 16 targets in that aforementioned trio of contests -- has given a significant boost to his overall fantasy production. Fournette will now have a chance to rest up from the recent spike in volume ahead of a Week 7 home matchup versus the Bears a week from Sunday.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: Fournette was a star for the Buccaneers during last season's Super Bowl run, but his season was one of ups-and-downs as he shared the backfield with Ronald Jones II. The two played 12 "full" games together, with Fournette handling more snaps (419 to 296) and targets (56 to 23), but with Jones leading in carries (132 to 114). Tampa Bay re-signed Fournette during the offseason, so combined with his expanded role in the playoffs, the 26-year-old is a good bet to lead this backfield in 2021. That said, Jones is the more effective rusher and Giovani Bernard was added as a passing-down option, which is certain to limit Fournette's upside. Fournette has two-career top-10 fantasy campaigns, but is best-viewed as a RB3/flex option in 2021.
