News: 4 days agoSutton recorded two receptions on seven targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Texans.
Spin: Sutton led the Broncos in targets but spent much of the game squandering his opportunity. That changed late in the third quarter when he made an acrobatic 45-yard touchdown grab, just reaching the front pylon as he was touched down. Sutton has now found the end zone nine times on the campaign -- including six times in his last seven games -- even though he's topped 75 receiving yards only three times this season.
ESPN Fantasy Projection: The arrival of Russell Wilson was expected to help Sutton to a big rebound season in 2022, but the offensive struggles led to yet another dud. Ignoring a 2020 season lost to injury, Sutton has finished one of four campaigns as a top-40 fantasy WR (2019). He has primarily been utilized as a vertical target (career 13.0 aDOT) and near the goal line (fifth among WRs with 13 end zone targets in 2022), but he can't seem to find the end zone (four TDs in 32 games over the past two seasons) and is a nonfactor after the catch (2.3 RAC is last among 35 players with 200-plus targets over the past two seasons). Perhaps Sean Payton's arrival will breathe life into Sutton's career, but we'll need to see it first, especially with Jerry Jeudy, rookie Marvin Mims and TE Greg Dulcich crowding the pass catching group. Tim Patrick's season-ending injury makes Sutton worthy of a mid-round flier.
