News: 6 days agoDavis-Price rushed 10 times for 36 yards and failed to bring in his only target during the 49ers 28-21 preseason win over the Packers on Friday night.

Spin: The rookie third-round pick paced the backfield in carries on a night when Elijah Mitchell (hamstring) and Jeff Wilson (coach's decision) didn't see action. However, Davis-Price's backfield mates JaMycal Hasty and Jordan Mason averaged 7.2 and 5.0 yards per carry, respectively, shining the light on the LSU product's struggles a bit more. Davis-Price's next opportunity to make a case for a backup role comes in a road matchup against the Vikings a week from Saturday night.

ESPN Fantasy Projection: Davis-Price was selected by the 49ers in the third round of April's draft. The LSU product soaked up 379 carries and 40 targets during three seasons with the Tigers. He was busiest as a rusher last season (211-1003-6 rushing line), but never quite emerged as a threat in the passing game (season high of 15 targets). Davis-Price's rushing and receiving efficiency were both poor during his career and that includes low-end showings in the YAC and FMT departments. He posted a decent 40 time (4.48) at the combine, but underwhelmed in the vertical and broad jump. He's young and has some tools, so there's some upside here, but playing time will elude him after Elijah Mitchell emerged as the team's lead back as a rookie in 2021. Davis-Price's primary value is in dynasty.
