Gordon: Playing for team of the millennium
 Darrien Gordon
Gordon chatted on Thursday.

If it's up to cornerback Darrien Gordon, he and his Bronco teammates will go down in history as the "Team of the millennium."

In a Jan. 28 chat with ESPN.com users, Gordon was asked if next season the Broncos could be back without John Elway and he explained why a Threepeat, should Denver win Super Bowl XXXIII, is not out of the question.

Gordon also talked about who he will be looking at most often on Super Sunday, what he looks for as a punt returner and why the Atlanta Falcons don't look much like the San Diego Chargers team with whom he last went to the Super Bowl in Miami.

An edited transcript follows.

Ryan Kane: Who do you expect to spend the most time covering during Super Bowl XXXIII? Terance Mathis or Tony Martin?

Gordon: Martin, just from watching the film. I play right corner and usually he's on my side, but they mix it around pretty well.

Nate: What do you look for first when you catch a punt?

Gordon: The first thing I do as soon as the punter punts it, is look at the gunners on the outside to see if anyone got through clean. They are the people you worry about the most as a punt returner -- the wide guys, they are the fastest and quickest guys who have the best opportunity to get a big hit on you.

Ryan Kane: Do you see any similarities between the 1998 Falcons and your Super Bowl trip with the Chargers?

GORDON'S FILE
Gordon is in his second season with Denver and played in all 16 games this year. He has 64 tackles on the year, 60 solo. He also picked off four passes and returned one for a touchdown.

Gordon was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the first round (22nd pick overall) of the 1993 NFL Draft after being named second-team All-Pac-10 as a senior cornerback for the Stanford Cardinal. That year he recorded 63 tackles, 17 passes defensed and four interceptions. He ended his career with six pass deflections versus Penn State in the Blockbuster Bowl and was named the game's MVP.

Gordon: Not really, (especially as far as being underdogs), phrases like underdog are just labels people place on teams. If you look at talent or film you'd see we are pretty evenly matched. I think the oddsmakers calling them underdogs is kind of a misnomer.

pete: How has your relationship with Ray Crockett helped you as a cornerback?

Gordon: Oh great. Last year was my first year with the new team and being able to sit down with Ray and watch film with him about how to play different techniques definitely helped me last year.

Also, off the field we hang out all the time. We have a good rapport with each other and it carries out onto the field.

T RAY: If John Elway retires I don't think the Broncos miss a beat next season with Bubby Brister. What do you think -- Threepeat?

Gordon: There's a definite possibility for a Threepeat. Whenever you lose a player like John there are going to be some setbacks and distractions. But Bubby proved that he's ready to be the man for us next year. Hopefully, if we don't lose anyone other than John, we'll be in this situation next year.

Dynasty?: Do you think the Broncos could be known as the "Team of the '90s?"

Gordon: I think so, I think that's what Mike Shanahan wants to do. You can see that they're trying to get most of the players locked in for the next three or four years. We want to be a team for the next millennium. We have that ability. As long as we keep the same core of talent around we can be here for the next three or four years.

Well, sorry I have to go, off to do a few more interviews. Thanks for your questions, enjoy the game and root for the Broncos.
