Fans injured at Pro Bowl Experience

Associated Press

HONOLULU -- Four people were injured Sunday when scaffolding collapsed at the NFL's Pro Bowl Experience at Fort DeRussy in Waikiki.

A gust of wind toppled the heavy scaffolding that fell on three men and a 4-year-old boy around 3 p.m.

The injured were taken to Queen's Medical Center, where one man was treated and released and two others were reported in fair condition. The boy was transferred to Kapiolani Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.

Event organizer Bill Barron said the scaffolding was engineered to remain in place, and was being held by 300 pounds of sandbags on each side.

The event was the last held as part of the annual Pro Bowl festivities. The AFC beat the NFC 38-30 in Saturday's NFL all-star game.

The Pro Bowl Experience, which in previous years was held in an indoor arena, gives fans the opportunity to run an obstacle course, throw and kick a football, and meet Pro Bowl players.
