Packers the popular pick in NFC

ESPN.com

Who will end up with the NFC's No. 1 seed?

Sean Salisbury
Green Bay Packers
First, they have to beat Tampa Bay on Sunday. But as long as the Packers can stay healthy and hungry, they should run away with the weak NFC North and clinch home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. With offensive weapons like Brett Favre and Ahman Green, the Packers already have a head start. Tampa Bay is another consideration, but the Bucs have three tough games left against Green Bay, New Orleans and Atlanta. So I think the NFC championship game will go through Green Bay, where the aura of Lambeau Field will give the Packers a significant edge.

Andrea Kremer
New Orleans Saints
It will come down to Green Bay and New Orleans. If they both finish 12-4, then the Saints have the advantage because they beat the Packers in Week 2. On paper, the Saints also have the easier remaining schedule. Their toughest game will be Dec. 1 against Tampa Bay at the Superdome. Green Bay has road games against Tampa Bay, San Francisco and the NY Jets. If everything holds to form, I have to pick New Orleans.

Mark Schlereth
Green Bay Packers
Brett Favre is in the running for a fourth MVP award. I know they lost to Minnesota, but they always have trouble playing in the Metrodome -- for whatever reason. They will wash that taste out of their mouths. The Packers have been battle-tested with injuries, yet they continue to find a way to play at a high level, aside from last week. They believe in their starters and their backups. They will end up being the team to beat in the NFC.

Mike Golic
Green Bay Packers or Tampa Bay Buccaneers
I hate to say it, but talk to me Monday. Green Bay and Tampa Bay are playing Sunday and are tied with the best record (8-2). The winner will have the edge. That's the way the NFL is going this year; it changes from week to week. That doesn't mean the three-loss teams -- New Orleans, San Francisco and Philadelphia -- can't jump up. But if the Packers have home-field advantage at Lambeau Field, that's a huge advantage to the Packers. Not many teams can play in the cold at Lambeau.

Merril Hoge
San Francisco 49ers
I love their offense and how offensive coordinator Greg Knapp manages the game, creating matchups and plays for every player. The offense is diverse and difficult to defend. Defensive coordinator Jim Mora Jr. is doing a good job of managing his people too. He has an aggressive mentality, and the secondary is getting healthier. I see the defense turning the corner. The kicking game is the biggest concern. If the 49ers can solidify that area, they should end up as the NFC's No. 1 seed.

Mark Malone
Green Bay Packers
The Packers' loss to Minnesota was an expected blip on the radar. Brett Favre doesn't play well in domes, and the Packers have shown signs of inconsistency this season. But I have have to believe Green Bay will come out on top. The Packers have played at a high level despite multiple injuries, including one to Favre. Three of their final six games will be played in the cold weather conditions of Lambeau Field, which certainly favors the Packers. Right now, the Packers playing ability, combined with various intangibles, gives them a slight edge over Tampa Bay for the NFC's No. 1 seed.
