Herman Edwards brings a great love and passion for football to the Jets. His enthusiasm will be needed for a team that fell apart a bit at the end. Edwards has been around and learned from some great coaches, like Tony Dungy in Tampa Bay and Marty Schottenheimer in Kansas City. In addition, having played in the league always gives a coach an advantage in dealing with and handling players. Even though he was an NFL defensive back and coached the secondary in Tampa Bay and in Kansas City, Edwards also has a good perspective on offense and will have a good feel for what the Jets, specifically, need to do offensively. Look for more explosive plays down the field and more depth at running back to protect Curtis Martin. Defensively, he'll install a system that will build on the Jets' strengths. I don't think he'll reconstruct the Jets' defense; he'll expand and enhance what they already have. Hiring Edwards is a very positive move for the Jets. |
