Robert Smith,
Vikings RBBorn: 03.04.72
College: Ohio State
Size: 6' 2" 210
Drafted: First round (21st overall) in 1993.
NFL's leading rusher (1,391 yards).
He's as smart as any player in the league, and not just from the standpoint of football. His priorities have always been straight and he's a student on and off the field. His head is exactly where it needs to be.
The great ones have the ability to see a hole before it opens. It's simple. The great ones see it before it happens, and he's in that category.
He has learned to become a receiver since he's been drafted. Good athletes can adapt to new situations and he has. He's as good at taking the ball on a screen pass as there is in the league.
His knees are healthy. This might be his first full season in the NFL. He's made such a great impact in such a short period of time that you knew he'd be huge if he got a full season. It finally happened and he's become the key to that offense.
Smith has great speed. He has long legs, runs upright and doesn't look very fast, but you won't see anyone catch him. He's like Eric Dickerson in that respect. He can get 'em up and put 'em down as fast as anyone in the league.
