Matt Patricia said "we have some good players in that room" and that they all have roles when asked about Jesse James' role this year. The Lions gave Jesse James a good contract in free agency (four years, $22.6 million, $10.5 million of it guaranteed) but he has barely been used as a pass-catcher this season, eight catches for 64 yards.

The Patriots have placed WR/PR Gunner Olszewski (ankle/hamstring) on injured reserve, per a source. With the open roster spot, the club officially elevated LT Isaiah Wynn to the 53-man roster from injured reserve. Olszewski has been the Patriots' primary punt returner through the first six games of the season, but Mohamed Sanu has stepped into that role in recent games.

Wide receiver Noah Brown will not play this season, according to sources. Brown, who had been on the physically unable to perform list, had a second surgery on his knee recently after undergoing an operation in June. Brown missed all of training camp while rehabbing and the hope was he could return at some point after the sixth game of the season. He is expected to be ready to participate again in the offseason program.

He sounds like he wants to play Thursday but he has a couple of boxes to check off - GM Chris Ballard, coach Frank Reich and the doctors - before he can return. Hilton (calf) has owned the Texans in Houston in his career: 9 rec, 199 yds (2018), 5 rec, 175 yds (2017), 9 rec 223 yds (2014), 7 rec, 121 yds (2013)

The Steelers weren't among the seven teams who attended Colin Kaepernick's workout in Atlanta on Saturday. Mike Tomlin said part of that was because they were focused on preparing for the Browns on a short week. But he also said communication around the event wasn't great. "Not a lot of discussions there, to be honest with you," he said "Not a lot of real fluid information there, how the information came out."

He was cut him immediately with GM Chris Grier saying they hold their players to a high standard. Walton was through two games of a four-game suspension dating back to his three offseason arrests.

Jerry Jones is looking at Sunday's matchup against New England as a measuring stick game for his 6-4 Cowboys. “This isn't just my town against your town. It's obviously a big one for us in how we make our way to the playoffs, so everything you play football for is riding there against New England and the challenge is with us,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I think it's an opportunity to take a step up in the opinion of it, not only from within but without.”
