SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The San Francisco 49ers have promoted chief operating officer Paraag Marathe to team president. He replaces Gideon Yu, who is stepping down from the position.
Yu will remain as a co-owner of the team. Al Guido, who worked intimately with the 49ers and the Santa Clara Stadium Authority in his previous role as the senior vice president of Global Sales for Legends, will become COO.
"As we move closer to the opening of Levi's Stadium, our organization will continue to evolve and grow," 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. "Gideon, Paraag and Al have been instrumental in making the new stadium a reality, and I couldn't be more excited about the future of our management team and the 49ers organization. Paraag and Al have developed a tremendous working relationship and I am deeply confident in their leadership."
Marathe's promotion was not totally unexpected. He has been a respected part of the team for 13 years and has been vital to the organization because of his business and football knowledge.
General manager Trent Baalke's role will not change. He will continue to run the football operations.
