Letroy Guion to have suspension appeal heard Aug. 24

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- It will be at least another couple of weeks before Letroy Guion will know whether his three-game suspension will stick.

The Green Bay Packers defensive tackle's appeal will be heard by the NFL on Aug. 24, according to a league source. The Packers do not have a training camp practice scheduled for that day.

Guion was informed of his suspension late last month , but the NFL has not announced it. The league does not release suspension information until the appeals process has been completed, according to NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

The Packers and Guion have been bracing for a suspension ever since his February arrest on charges of marijuana and firearm possession, but they were hoping he would be suspended for only a game or two after he paid a $5,000 fine in a plea deal to avoid prosecution.

Guion has not spoken to reporters since training camp opened last week. He has been taking a normal workload in practice and is eligible to participate in preseason games.

The Packers already will be without defensive end Datone Jones for the Sept. 13 season opener against the Chicago Bears. Jones was suspended one game for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy.
