IK Enemkpali added to 53-man roster during four-game suspension

The NFL has suspended Buffalo Bills defensive end IK Enemkpali for the first four games of the regular season for violating the personal conduct policy, the league announced Friday.

To keep another team from signing him off their practice squad during his suspension, the Bills signed Enemkpali to their 53-man roster late Friday. He will not count against the 53-man limit during his suspension.

Enemkpali is eligible to return to the Bills' active roster Oct. 5, following their Oct. 4 game against the New York Giants.

The suspension stems from an Aug. 11 altercation in which Enemkpali, who was then a member of the New York Jets, punched quarterback Geno Smith in the Jets' locker room, breaking his jaw.

The Jets waived Enemkpali later that day, and the Bills claimed him off waivers Aug. 12. Enemkpali appeared in three preseason games for the Bills before being waived Sept. 4 and re-signed to the practice squad.

Smith, who has been ruled out for Week 1, said he does not plan to file charges against Enemkpali.
