DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins cornerback Brent Grimes spoke to media for the first time Wednesday since his wife had disparaging remarks for teammate and quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Both players said they cleared the air since Miko Grimes posted on social media that Tannehill "stunk" following Miami's 18-12 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Brent Grimes made it clear to Tannehill that he doesn't share the same sentiment.

"My wife's opinions are her opinions," Brent Grimes said in the locker room. "It's not my opinion. I really don't understand it."

As a follow-up, Brent Grimes was asked what he thought of Tannehill.

"He's our quarterback," the cornerback said. "He's a quarterback. He makes plays. He does what he has to do, and that's the guy we go out with every Sunday. That's my guy and that's my teammate."

Tannehill mostly shrugged off the criticism. He did admit this story has become a "distraction" as the Dolphins (5-10) prepare for the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots (12-3).

"It doesn't affect what I think about myself and the way I go about my business and prepare to win games," Tannehill said. "The saddest part about the whole thing is we have to answer questions about it and it's becoming a distraction to myself, this organization and this team. Other than that, it's business as usual and nothing's changed from me."

It has been a rough season overall for Tannehill. He is wrapping up his fourth consecutive non-winning season and there are questions about his long-term future, despite signing a $96 million extension earlier this year.

Tannehill, who has thrown for 3,858 yards, 22 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, believes he still has backing from the team and within the locker room.

"I feel I have support," Tannehill said. "You can ask around and gather your own opinion. But I feel confident about the support I have and the guys are behind me."
