Chiefs waive QB Aaron Murray

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Quarterback Aaron Murray, who entered training camp in competition to be the primary backup to Alex Smith, was waived by the Chiefs, a source confirmed.

Murray didn't play well in the preseason and fell well behind Nick Foles and Tyler Bray, as well as Smith, on the depth chart. Murray fumbled three times in a recent game against the Los Angeles Rams and then threw two interceptions in Thursday night's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Murray, the Chiefs' fifth-round draft pick in 2014, never played in a regular-season game.

ProFootballTalk.com first reported that the Chiefs had waived Murray.
