Source: Rams to hire Les Snead as GM

The St. Louis Rams will hire Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead as their new general manager, a league source confirmed to ESPN.com on Saturday.

Snead had been one of Atlanta general manager Thomas Dimitroff's top assistants. Snead had been with the Falcons for 13 seasons, gradually working his way up through the scouting ranks.

St. Louis fired general manager Billy Devaney and coach Steve Spagnuolo on Jan. 2, one day after the Rams wrapped up a 2-14 season tied for the NFL's worst.

Snead was one of several candidates to interview before the Rams hired Jeff Fisher as coach. However, after Fisher's hiring, the Rams paused their GM search to fill out Fisher's coaching staff.

Snead began his NFL career as a scout with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
