The Seattle Seahawks will place their franchise tag on running back Marshawn Lynch if the two sides cannot agree to a long-term contract by Monday, a team source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The 25-year-old Lynch rushed for 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2011 in his best NFL season.
Lynch had six 100-yard games in the Seahawks' final nine games. In the three games during that stretch in which Lynch failed to top 100 yards, he rushed for more than 85 yards twice and had two touchdowns rushing in the third one.
His 1,000-yard season was his first since 2008, when he was a member of the Buffalo Bills.
